Villanovans across the country will be volunteering in September for the 2018 St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service.

Join the Clubs of Palm Beach and South Florida for as we partner with Habitat for Humanity. We will participate in their Thrivent” or “A Brush with Kindness” program, which improves existing area homes as part of their three-year Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) commitment in Palm Beach County.

Eligibility: Volunteers of all ages are eligible to help on this project. Volunteers under the age of 16 must have a minor consent form completed by a parent or legal guardian (available at the site). Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult while on the work site and there is a 4:1 minor:adult ratio on the site.

Check In: Volunteers should arrive at 8:00am for check-in and a safety orientation. Be sure to sign in and out to log your hours. (This helps us with funding.)

Skills: No experience is necessary. Volunteers should be prepared to work on any aspect of home repairs/beautification, including but not limited to painting, landscaping, minor repair work and clean up.

Food/Water: Water will be provided onsite for your group members, and you are welcome to bring snacks and lunch.

What to Wear: Each volunteer must wear closed toe shoes with a thick sole (ex: sneakers/work boots). Regardless of what task you will be doing, proper working attire will help make your day more comfortable. South Florida is typically hot and humid so dress accordingly. Please wear sunscreen and/or a hat.

Restrooms: There is always a portable toilet available on site.

Parking: Please carpool when possible as parking is limited, and be respectful of all neighboring properties.

Personal Valuables: Habitat accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen items. We recommend that you not bring items with high monetary or sentimental value; that you remove all valuable items in your car from view, and that you put your name on any items you do bring.

Safety and Risk: Habitat PBC takes safety very seriously. Our construction supervisors are experienced, well trained specialists. For safety sake, we expect volunteers to follow instructions and cautions from the supervisors.

Illness or Injury: There is always a First Aid Kit available on site for any worker who becomes ill or injured. You will be welcome to rejoin your work team after you recover and can again participate fully.

Communication and Supervision: Your volunteer crew will be supervised by members of our full-time construction staff, they will provide you with technical assistance and additional direction where needed.

Weather: As you know the weather in S. Florida changes frequently. Please assume that the project is on unless you are notified or there are thunderstorm or hurricane watches or warnings. If unsure feel free to call Dave Bunzel, Volunteer Coordinator 561-402-0695 or Ron Weaver, NR Construction Coordinator 561-701-6522.

We look forward to seeing you!
