About the event

Location: St. Andrew's Church, 20 Cardinal Hayes Place, New York, NY
Date: Monday, January 20, 2020
Time: 10:50 am - 2:00 pm

Join the Villanova Club of NYC for our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. This year, we'll be returning to St. Andrew's Church in Lower Manhattan, new home to the Sisters of Life Pregnancy Center. The Sisters provide assistance, education, and housing for pregnant women and newborns in need; St. Andrew's Church is the epicenter of their mission.

Famous since the 1900s as the unofficial "printers church" for Catholic newspaper workers in Manhattan, St. Andrew's was gifted to the Sisters in 2018 thanks to the generosity of the Archdiocese of New York. With a little TLC—which is where Villanova volunteers come in! —St. Andrew's will be a perfect fit for the Sisters and new and expectant mothers in need. We'll spend the day cleaning, refurbishing, and reorganizing portions of the church, parish hall, and convent.

Children and families are welcome, and we'll cap off the day with drinks at a local pub for those who are available (and over 21).

Please RSVP to clubofnyc@villanova.edu to let us know you’re coming. While there is not a cost to attend this event, donations may be made to the Club of NYC by following this link and entering "Club of NYC" on the second page.  All donations will support service events in the NYC area through the purchase of volunteer supplies and financial support of our partner organizations.

St. Andrew's Church & Cardinal Hayes Pl. are located behind the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building (accessible from the J & Z Station at Chambers Street or the 4, 5, 6 Station at Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall). Please use the entrance on Cardinal Hayes Pl., which is on the right side of the church if you are facing its front entrance.
